Outlander Star Sam Heughan: It Gets Muddy and Bloody
Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) have returned to Scotland after their sojourn in Paris, not sure how much history they managed to change, despite all their manuverings while they were in the French capital.
In Saturday night’s Je Suis Prest episode, the men train for war when Claire and Jamie reunite with the Lallybroch and MacKenzie clans as they prepare to defend the Highlands against British forces.
“When we get to the end of the season when the battles take place — I’m not giving away too much — but we lose some characters,” Heughan said at a roundtable press conference for Outlander. “It really does become very emotional, and it’s just going to build towards the end of the season.”
Also in the next episode, Jamie’s power struggles with Dougal (Graham McTavish) and Claire’s personal battle with her memories of World War II weigh upon them, but new, helpful information comes to light when a young Englishman named William Grey (Oscar Kennedy) pays a surprise visit to their camp.
How do you see Jamie at this point?
It’s funny because Jamie wears all these scars on his body, which are marks of things that have happened to him. It’s just very interesting that even in the physicality of things, we now have to carry this through forever, for however long we film this, so that’s been interesting, but also, the psychology of things. We’re all excited to see where this goes.
